Retiring in due seasonRetreat

Retreat is not defeat; it is another kind of advance.

Dun: two yin growing below, four yang above. The yin quietly lengthens; the yang slowly recedes. Dun is not being pushed out — it is seeing that the season has passed and stepping away on your own. Leave when it is time, without waiting to be asked, without explaining why. Behind every great achievement stands a stretch of Dun — not to vanish, but to return.

The lines grade the retreat three ways: a good retreat, an admirable one, an ample and unburdened one — the same word leave across three levels. The measure of a withdrawal is how much composure remains in you as you go.

Practice This week, exit one thing that has drained you for ages — even just a one-week pause. No explanations, no follow-up arrangements.
In the four domains

01Career & decisions

Retreat is the move that keeps the next campaign possible. Step back before you are pushed: hand over cleanly, keep the relationships, keep the notes.

02Love & bonds

Create gracious distance instead of a scene. A soft withdrawal now preserves a bond the loud exit would end.

03Wealth & resources

Sell down, de-risk, stop funding the losing line. Small holdings and a calm ledger are a position, not a defeat.

04Body & mind

Withdraw from the feed, the debate, the group chat. Guarded stillness restores what exposure drains.

Timing & action

Withdraw in good order this month — while the choosing is still yours. The tail held back is where retreats go wrong.
