Shaken awakeThe Arousing
Those the thunder strikes do more than hear the noise.
Zhen is thunder upon thunder. Its subject is the shock: the unforeseen calls you out of habit. Shock is not calamity but reminder. Long in the routine, one loses sensitivity to rhythm; a thunderclap returns you to yourself — you still feel, you can still be moved. Laughing and talking follows: those truly startled laugh most genuinely afterward.
The judgment's rhythm is exact: thunder terrifies, then easy laughter — startled first, chatting as usual after. Zhen's function is not destruction but reset. To be startled is proof of feeling; to laugh back is proof the root held.
