Small excess, careful stepsSmall Exceeding

Be exact in small things; relax in large ones.

Xiao Guo: two yang below, four yin above — the whole gestalt is small exceeding: small excesses, small errors, small oversteps. Not great risk but many small things: keys left behind, replies late, details missed, courtesies slightly off. The flying bird leaves its song: be steady in the small; the large may stay loose.

The judgment draws the line: small matters may be done; great matters not. Small excess's tolerance covers detail only; overstep into the great and the nature changes. Many collapses are carried in on the inertia of small things — indulge detail long enough, and the large loosens too.

Practice This week note three small excesses in your life — a missed detail, a neglected person, an unfinished sentence. Mend one of them.
In the four domains

01Career & decisions

Exceed in the small, stay low in the big: over-prepare details, under-announce ambitions. The flying bird should come down — close to the ground is safe and wise.

02Love & bonds

Small generosities exceed grand declarations. Remember the date, carry the bag, send the note — slightly more than expected, every time.

03Wealth & resources

Over-save slightly, under-leverage slightly, double-check the small print. In small matters, excess is prudence.

04Body & mind

Wear the extra layer, take the extra rest day. Small exceeding in self-care prevents large catastrophes.

Timing & action

Go down, not up: this month, choose detail over drama. One extra degree of care in small things now beats one heroic gesture later.
